Eight Bayelsa LG chairmen follows Diri, dump PDP

All eight local government chairmen in Bayelsa State have resigned their membership of the Peoples Democratic Party and declared their support for Governor Douye Diri following his decision to quit the party.

The chairmen announced their resignation on Wednesday evening during a press conference held at the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria Secretariat in Yenagoa, the state capital.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that Diri resigned from the PDP alongside members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly on Wednesday, sparking speculation that he may be set to join the ruling All Progressives Congress.

The governor, who said his resignation was for “obvious reasons,” did not elaborate on his grievances with the party.
