Okada rider saves prison warder from taking own life in Gusau
A Nigerian Correctional Service officer attempted to take his own life by diving into the Gusau Dam in Zamfara State.
The officer, identified as Abdullahi Nura, a Chief Correctional Assistant (CCA) stationed at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC) in Gusau, reportedly left for work as usual before diverting his route to the dam—one of the deepest water bodies in Zamfara’s capital.
According to a statement by the Zamfara State Correctional Service Public Relations Officer, Mustapha Abubakar (ASC I), Nura hired a commercial motorcyclist (Okada) who transported him to the dam.
Upon arrival, the officer suddenly jumped into the water without saying a word.
Luckily, the startled rider raised the alarm immediately, alerting security officials and bystanders nearby.
Responders rushed in and pulled Nura from the water just in time.
“He was still dressed in his uniform, and his official ID card was found tucked against his chest,” the statement read.
The Nigerian Correctional Service headquarters in the state was contacted, and a team dispatched by the Controller of Corrections, CCS Musa Tanko, arrived promptly at the scene.
Nura was taken to the MSCC medical clinic in Gusau, where he is currently undergoing treatment.Upon arrival, the officer suddenly jumped into the water without saying a word.
