Zamfara PDP unshaken regardless of defections

Image
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Zamfara Chapter, says it remains unshaken in spite of defections from the party to the All Progressives Congress (APC). This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday in Gusau by Mr Halliru Andi, the Publicity Secretary of the party. While the PDP is the ruling party in the state, the APC holds sway at the federal level. The party was reacting to the defection of Maharazu Faru, representing the Maradun II constituency in the State House of Assembly. Faru, who joined the APC together with PDP executives in the five wards, among others, hinged his defection on Gov. Dauda Lawal’s inability to meet his campaign promises. “Dauda failed to address challenges ranging from insecurity, which is the main reason people voted for him,” the lawmaker said.

Nnamdi Kanu’s release will bring peace to Southeast – Ned Nwoko

Image
The lawmaker representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has said that the release of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, will bring peace to the Southeast. This was as he said peace has continued to elude the Southeast geopolitical zone due to the perceived marginalisation of the region by successive governments. Nwoko stated this in an interview on Sunday Politics, a programme on Channels Television monitored by DAILY POST. According to him, the Southeast has witnessed persistent unrest in recent years, following agitations by the separatist group, which has been calling for the creation of an independent state of Biafra. He maintained that the creation of Anioma State and the release of IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, will almost certainly bring lasting peace to the Southeast.

Crystal Palace's loss to Larnaca should serve as reminder to 'stay humble' - Glasner

Image
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner said their embarrassing 1-0 home defeat by Cypriot minnows AEK Larnaca in the Europa Conference League on Thursday should serve as a reminder for the FA Cup winners to "stay humble". The Premier League club were  hosting a European match for the first time in their 101-year history  but  Riad Balic 's goal early in the second half spoiled the party at London's Selhurst Park. Palace  are eighth in the Premier League and enjoying a good run of form while  Larnaca  are fifth in the Cypriot league. "We will learn from it, the players will learn. And yes, it's disappointing, it's a frustrating night, but maybe the whole environment needed it to stay humble,"  Glasner told reporters. "You are always told when you play in the Premier League you win the Conference League. Stay humble. I don't know if any debutant (is able) to win the competition. I don't think so."
